Mercedes-Benz recalls more than 120,000 vehicles after the sunroof may fall while driving

Mercedes-Benz will recall more than 120,000 cars with removable sunroofs in the United States, involving models of 2001-2011 C-Class, CLK, E-Class and related CLS-Class models because the sunroofs have fallen off risk. Mercedes believes that the sunroof on the car detached from the car over time due to the deterioration of the bonding material on the sunroof, according to documents filed with NHTSA by Mercedes-Benz.

Considering that all affected models have been out of production for several years, it took Mercedes-Benz nearly five years between first reporting the incident in 2017 and announcing the recall last month, with three simultaneous recalls.

There have been no reports of injuries related to the defect, and affected vehicles will be called back to dealerships for a repair inspection.

In fact, back in 2019, Mercedes issued a similar recall for nearly 750,000 cars that took less than two minutes to dry.

However, Mercedes and its suppliers suspected that more vehicles than the original recall might be affected by the defect, and in 2021 expanded the recall to include models with longer drying times.
