Mercedes-AMG’s first pure electric car on new platform revealed

Mercedes-AMG recently released two “official spy photos” of its new pure electric model. The car is the first pure electric high-performance car of AMG’s new platform AMG.EA. It is expected to be released at the end of this year or early next year, and will compete with similar models such as the Porsche Taycan.

Compared with existing pure electric sedans such as Mercedes-Benz EQE and EQS, this new car from AMG has a lower body and sharper detailed design, equipped with a racing-style diffuser and different styles of taillights. Additionally, the car features a retractable rear spoiler and hidden door handles.

Note: The full name of the AMG.EA platform is AMG Electric Architecture (literally translated as AMG electric architecture). It is the exclusive platform architecture developed by Mercedes-Benz for the first time for AMG’s pure electric high-performance models.

In terms of power, the car will be equipped with an axial flux motor from YASA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. Compared with the common radial motors on the market, this motor can achieve 1/3 the volume and weight and achieve the same power output. Past data shows that the maximum power of a single axial flux motor can reach 487 horsepower. In addition to having a more powerful motor, the new car is expected to use a thinner battery pack that can increase energy density by 40%.

At the beginning of this month, foreign media MotorAuthority released a set of multi-angle spy photos of the same model. The media predicted that the new car will be a pure electric version of the AMG GT model.
