Mercedes-AMG is developing its first high-end electric sports car. Set to launch in 2025, the model will be the first AMG model to ride on the company’s AMG.EA dedicated platform.

As an electric iteration of the V8-powered GT 63 4-door coupe, the new model will be designed from the ground up to be a performance car.

The AMG.EA platform is a specialized sports electric vehicle architecture whose core comes from the motor technology of the British company Yas (The company was acquired by Mercedes in 2021).

Yas boss Tim Woolmer confirmed to Autocar that its motor weighs just 24kg and produces 590 lb-ft of torque and 480bhp. A dual-motor powertrain could produce close to 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of power.

In addition, AMG’s rivals BMW and Audi also have next-generation electric platforms with more than 1,300 horsepower, but they have not yet given data for their next-generation cars, such as the next-generation M3 and RS6 E-Tron.
