A year ago, MediaTek released its flagship 9000 chip, and with its unique design architecture, low-power design capability and leading power consumption performance, this flagship SoC has been recognized by mainstream smartphone manufacturers in China and has greatly contributed to MediaTek’s continuous top position in the global and Chinese smartphone chip market share.

The latest report from Counterpoint Research shows that MediaTek led the smartphone SoC market in China with a 42% market share in Q2 2022, more than doubling its market share compared to Q2 2020.

Undoubtedly, the Dimensity 9000 series is the biggest contributor to MediaTek’s rapid growth. This is why the release of the next-generation flagship chip, the Tiangui 9200, is highly anticipated by the industry.

On November 8, the Tiangui 9200 was officially launched. At the same time, Vivo, OPPO, Xiaomi, Honor, and Asus have announced that they will launch new machines equipped with Tiangui 9200, among which the next generation flagship model of Vivo will have the world’s first Dimensity 9200.

A brief introduction to the specifications of the Dimensity 9200.

The industry’s first processor using TSMC’s second-generation 4nm process, integrating 17 billion transistors.

Equipped with a 3.05GHz Cortex-X3 super core, three 2.85GHz A715 large cores, and four 1.8GHz A510 small cores, the super cores and large cores all support pure 64-bit applications. Official tests say that the GeekBench 5 CPU performance of the Dimensity 9200 is 12% better than the Dimensity 9000 in terms of single-core performance, 10% better in terms of multi-core performance, 10% better in terms of heat dissipation, and up to 25% lower power consumption for the same performance.

The GPU is equipped with the Immortalis-G715 flagship GPU, which supports hardware ray tracing technology for mobile.

The 9200 also supports LPDDR5X 8533Mbps memory, 13% higher bandwidth than the 9000, and 8-channel UFS 4.0 flash memory APU, the 9200 integrates MediaTek’s 6th generation AI processor APU, the energy-efficient AI architecture not only improves the AI performance by 35% compared to the previous generation but also reduces the power consumption of various AI applications.

We believe that you are very curious about the performance scores of the Dimensity 9200, the day before the launch of the Dimensity 9200, MediaTek organized a small closed-door meeting and provided the Dimensity 9200 engineering prototype to run the scores of the actual test.

The following are the scores of the Dimensity 9200.
Note: A test model is an engineering machine, and there are differences between mass-production models, the score is for reference only.

First of all, AnTuTu (v9.2.6) scores.

In the AnTuTu score, Dimensity 9200 got a score of 1264995, which is the highest AnTuTu score among all the phones I have tested, beating all the current Android flagship phones.

Specifically, in the CPU category, the 9200 scored 273,586, while the GPU score reached 551,541, a huge increase of about 30%.

In the Geekbench (5.1) score test, the 9200 scored 1425 points for single-core and 4457 points for multi-core.

When compared to the Geekbench5 score database, we can see that compared to today’s flagship SoCs, the Dimensity 9200 has a significant lead in both single-core and multi-core scores, and sits firmly in the performance king position.

Next, let’s take a look at the GFXBench test, which focuses more on GPU performance.

The specific results are as follows.

GFX-Manhattan 3.0 1080p Off-Screen Test 323fps

GFX-Manhattan 3.1 1080p off-screen test 226fps

GFX-Aztec 1440p OpenGL off-screen test 63fps

GFX-Aztec 1440p Vulkan off-screen test 67fps

As you can see from the score chart, thanks to the Immortalis-G715 flagship GPU, the Dimensity 9200 is 30%+ better than the Dimensity 9000 in GFXBench Manhattan 3.0 testing, and 26fps better than Apple’s A16 in 1080p Manhattan 3.1 off-screen testing.

It should be emphasized that the prototype in this test has a very simple cooling design (or even no cooling), and the battery capacity is only 3000mAh, which is very different from the subsequent mass-production models, so the test scores can be regarded as the baseline scores of the Dimensity 9200. Considering that the subsequent models with the Dimensity 9200 will have more brutal heat dissipation configurations (such as gaming phones) and different tuning optimizations from the manufacturer, the Dimensity 9200 will also have higher scores. For example, the AnTuTu score of the Vivo engineering machine equipped with Dimensity 9200 exceeded 1.28 million, which is very good proof.

In addition to the score test, a simple game test, including 90Hz + smooth image quality of “Peaceful Elite”, 90Hz / 120Hz + HD / extreme image quality of “King of Glory”, and 60Hz, very high quality of “Original God”. However, since the data could not be recorded using the frame measurement software in the field test, I will briefly talk about my subjective feelings during the game experience in this part.

First of all, in the three games in the test, there is no visible frame drops, and the lagging phenomenon, including the original God of the configuration requirements, is very high, in the test, even in some more configuration-eating large scenes, there are basically no frame drops or lagging phenomenon.

Secondly, during the game, the heat generation of the Dimensity 9200 is also very slight, including long time intensity tests, such as more than 30 minutes of the original God game, the body is also very difficult to have heat problems, this may be related to the engineering machine larger body, but after all, the engineering machine also did not do too much cooling design, so you can prove that the Tiangui 9200 low power consumption advantage is also quite obvious.

In the official data, the GPU power consumption of the Dimensity 9200 is 41% lower than that of the Dimensity 9000 in the Manhattan 3.0 test summary.

For example, in 120FPS + extreme quality MOBA games, the Dimensity 9200 consumes 21% less power on average compared to the Dimensity 9000.
