During the Linux Plumbers Conference event in Dublin, Google presented an update on its long-running “Ghost” project. As a way to control the Linux kernel scheduler from user space or eBPF programs, Ghost offers a fairly extensive API. For developers, they can also fine-tune the scheduling behavior according to system preferences.
During Monday’s LPC 2022 Dublin offline event, Google engineer Barret Rhoden presented an update on the Ghost kernel scheduling event.
First, multiple “agents” of User-Space or eBPF programs can be run on the same system to influence kernel scheduling behavior.
Second, the development team plans to implement Linux’s existing CFS algorithms (including eBPF and other new features) in a future release.
