In October last year, Meta released the Quest Pro headset, priced at US$1,500 equipped with the Snapdragon chip XR2 Plus. Meta claimed that the Quest Pro was only sold at “cost price”, but sales were still dismal. In March this year, the price of the headset was raised to US$999.99 and a variety of productivity features were updated, but sales were still not optimistic. In July this year, there was news that the Quest Pro product line was being cut, but Meta’s CTO Bosworth denied this statement.

According to the naming of Quest 4 Pro, Meta is expected to merge the existing two product lines of “Quest Pro” and “Quest”. In the future, it will focus on the “dual version” strategy of its Quest headset, rather than using “Quest Pro” as an Offered in separate product lines, thereby reducing R&D and promotion costs.

According to foreign media, Meta has announced a four-year development plan:

     The Quest 3 headset is planned to ship in the fall of 2023;

     Plans to launch an AR headset for internal demonstrations only, codenamed Orion, in 2024;

     It plans to release the first smart glasses with a display in 2025 (Note: traditional projection technology, not waveguide lenses), and also release the next generation Quest Pro, as well as a watch designed to "control the headset and smart glasses";

     It plans to launch a consumer AR headset code-named Artemis in 2027.
