Leica Camera has officially announced that the Leica SL system is now available for the new Profoto Connect Pro.

The new Profoto Connect Pro serves as a remote control and master control unit between the camera and the flash unit, allowing photographers to quickly and accurately adjust the balance between ambient light and flash anytime, anywhere. And with its clear and intuitive control design, this compact flash unit works reliably in all lighting conditions. Leica says the new Connect Pro and other Leica-compatible Profoto products will be available at select Leica stores, so stay tuned.

Previously, Leica photographers using Profoto’s lighting system were unable to use TTL auto-exposure and HSS high-speed synchronization. Now, Leica and Profoto have partnered to make the connection possible.

The Profoto Connect Pro flash trigger connects flashes, light shaping tools, accessories and cameras for simplicity and consistency, and the Connect Pro’s intuitive and clear interface, stable transmission, plus TTL auto exposure and HSS high-speed sync, all speed up the photographer’s workflow. There’s no need to read a complicated manual to use the Connect Pro, just attach it to the hot shoe and you’re ready to go. Fine-tune energy output in absolute terms to get the results you’re looking for. With Profoto’s AirX connectivity technology, information on the Connect Pro can be synchronized in real time on the Profoto Control app for phones and tablets. With up to 100 available channels, this tool can be used for a variety of shooting tasks.

Leica’s SL2 and SL2-S full-frame mirrorless cameras are the first camera models to be fully compatible with all features of the Profoto Connect Pro flash trigger, including TTL and HSS. Other Leica hot-shoe cameras currently support X-Sync manual mode, with full functionality to follow in 2023 when the corresponding firmware is updated. Note that the SL2 requires a firmware update to 5.0 or higher, and the SL2-S requires a firmware update to 4.0 or higher to enable full Profoto Connect Pro flash trigger support.
