The latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip with the new 1+2+2+3 architecture has been released, and some Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powered smartphones have already appeared on the Geekbench score site, including the Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra, which shows a Prime CPU core frequency of 3.36GHz, a performance core frequency of 2.80GHz and an efficiency core frequency of 2.02GHz. The performance core is 2.80GHz and the efficiency core is 2.02GHz.

In addition to the Samsung S23 series, the Vivo X90 Pro and iQOO 11 are also equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips, but these phones have a Prime core frequency of 3.19GHz. this is also the official value announced by Qualcomm, which is 3.1872GHz to be exact.

Recently, digital blogger @IceUniverse claimed that the European version of Samsung’s S23 series will use an “exclusive high-frequency version” of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. However, the scoring tests we’ve seen so far have come from the US version, so this could pertain to S23 devices worldwide.

Now more details have emerged that the Samsung S23 series will indeed have a Prime CPU core of 3.36GHz instead of 3.2GHz, but the GPU is also running at a higher 719MHz, above Qualcomm’s announced standard of 680MHz.

Qualcomm occasionally releases “AC” versions that run at higher than the chip’s base clock frequency. For example, the Snapdragon 855 is model number SM8150, and SM8150-AC is the Snapdragon 855+, which boosts the Prime core from 2.84GHz to 2.96GHz. the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model announced this week is SM8550-AB, so the follow-on overclocked version is SM8550-AC.

It’s unclear whether the chip for Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series will be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 2+ or some other name. But it seems that Qualcomm and TSMC have achieved a decent overclock from the technical side.

Qualcomm’s official data says that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has a 35% faster CPU and 25% faster GPU than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Given the overclocking of both, the new version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip will be even faster.
