Lamborghini Urus S unveiled: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds

Back in August during Monterey Car Week, Lamborghini unveiled the all-new Urus Performante, a facelifted high-performance SUV with tweaked styling for more power and less weight. Now, Lamborghini has announced the 2023 Urus S, which is second only to the Performante in the updated Urus lineup.

The Urus S’s upgraded twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 matches the Performance’s output — 657 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. That’s an increase of 16 horsepower over the old base model the Urus S replaces, and Lamborghini says it will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, while its top speed is 189 mph, which is 0.2 seconds and 1 mph shy of the Performante, respectively.

That’s partly because, while the Performante weighs 104 pounds less than the outgoing Urus, the Urus S doesn’t have any of the new model’s weight savings nor the Performante’s lower steel suspension. Instead, the Urus S retains the adaptive air suspension of the regular Urus.

What the Urus S gets are most of the styling tweaks from the Performante. The new front bumper has larger air intake, while the carbon fiber hood has integrated vents. The rear bumper also has a tweaked design, but the Urus S does not have the Performante’s radial spoiler. The wheels range in size from 21 to 23 inches, with the largest set now available in a bronze finish. the Urus S also has a number of new color and trim options for the interior.

The Urus S should reportedly go on sale in early 2023 and could cost a bit more than the current Urus at around $220,000. Lamborghini has built more than 20,000 Urus since its launch in 2018, and that number is sure to continue to grow rapidly as more variants become available – including a hybrid system.
