Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Italian supercar brand Lamborghini, said Friday that the company plans to invest at least 1.8 billion euros to launch a hybrid model by 2024 and more money to launch an all-electric model by 2030.

Lamborghini, part of the Volkswagen Group, said last year it would invest 1.5 billion euros to convert its current models – the Huracan and Aventador sports cars and the Urus sport utility vehicle – to oil-electric by the end of 2024 hybrid powertrains.

In an interview on Friday, Winkelmann said, “We have allocated 1.8 billion euros, but it will actually be more – the biggest investment in the history of Lamborghini cars.”

He added that this figure does not include the development of all-electric models.

Winkelmann said, “It will be a huge investment because we have to face the all-electric era while maintaining the values of the Lamborghini DNA. It’s going to be a very difficult challenge.”
