KDE Plasma 6 Desktop Environment to Bring Nightly Color to NVIDIA Graphics Card Users

0

The KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment series will support nighttime colour features that automatically adjust screen colour temperature, providing NVIDIA graphics card users with a better reading experience when using Plasma Wayland sessions for long periods of time at night, and more.

The KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment has previously committed to basic HDR support and will use Plasma Wayland by default.

KDE developer Nate Graham has now revealed that Plasma 6 will bring another feature contributed by Xaver Hugl, namely the ability to run nightly colour on Wayland for users with NVIDIA graphics cards.

However, the nightly colour feature in Plasma 6 was not as efficient as expected at first, but is expected to remain in working order while the developers use other, different, “but inefficient” methods, and hopefully, NVIDIA will release updated drivers that support the necessary Gamma LUT functionality.

The KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment will bring many new features, including a default floating panel, double-click to open files, a new default task switcher, a unified desktop plugin, better handling of keyboard backlighting, and more.

In addition to the expected new version of KDE Plasma 6, the KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS desktop environment series will be available on June 20, 2023, and is expected to bring a more stable and reliable desktop experience.
