Kaspersky to launch its own KasperskyOS with app store, not compatible with third-party systems

Kaspersky anti-virus software is one of the world’s most sophisticated antivirus software, headquartered in the Russian capital of Moscow, the full name of “Kaspersky Lab”, is one of the internationally renowned information security leading manufacturers.

Its founder, Eugene Kaspersky, first encountered problems with computer viruses in 1989 and subsequently developed the first version of Kaspersky’s anti-virus product. Through numerous iterations, Kaspersky’s virus database is now one of the largest in the world, with more than 200,000 virus samples.

However, due to the impact of domestic free security software, many users are now no longer using such software. The company has been developing its own system, KasperskyOS, for several years, and now plans to officially launch the KasperskyOS app store in 2024, having received $1.5 million in investment over the past two years from companies including MyOffice, Aprotech and Infotex.

KasperskyOS system has been launched as early as 2016 but has been in the position of no one pays attention to, this is mainly because the system supporting facilities are not perfect, and the application ecology is difficult, so Kaspersky 2021 began to develop its own application store, there is already a demo version, is testing the performance.

Dmitry Lukiyan, head of the Kaspersky OS platform solutions department, said that the KasperskyOS app store has three main sections, respectively for developers, users and management devices.

The first section is geared towards the developer portal, which focuses on what KasperskyOS is and all the information about its target users, such as how the software works, how to program the environment and other basic information; while the second section is the customer portal, where potential customers can get familiar with the software already available; and the third section is a tool software, which allows users to manage the lifecycle of applications through Kaspersky’s integrated Security Center to manage the application lifecycle.

It is worth mentioning that any developer can now fill out the application catalog, and while it currently supports third-party operating systems, Kaspersky also stresses that this app store is planned to be compatible with KasperskyOS only in the future.

Kaspersky allegedly plans to monetize its catalog, as they will distribute it by selling licenses for its software.

Simply put, Kaspersky will check apps for the catalog before it is released because of the possible presence of malware in the App. In addition, they will check the compatibility of their App with different versions of KasperskyOS and the software’s compliance with developers’ requirements (to be released when the Marketplace comes out), with a fully functional version of the enterprise software catalog planned for the new operating system in late 2023 to early 2024.

Kaspersky said that catalog management is planned to be implemented in Kaspersky Security Center. There is already an “Aprotech” gateway on the market to control the operation of the machine.

The first product expected to connect to Kaspersky’s catalog will be the Kaspersky IoT Secure Gateway 1000 for the industrial Internet of Things, a network device used primarily to combine sensors and transmit data from them, which will later appear in the “All Network Immunization Solutions based on Kaspersky OS ” catalog.
