Jeep Wrangler and extended-range models to go EV by 2028

Global car giant Stellantis has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract on October 28 local time but still needs to be approved by UAW members working at Dodge, Jeep, RAM, and Chrysler. A UAW document reveals the timeline for several popular models that will see a shift to new energy or even all-electric versions of their current or next-generation products, motor1 reported Friday local time.

According to the document, the current Jeep Wrangler will be in production until 2028, with the current hybrid Wrangler 4xe being upgraded in 2025, and the next-generation Wrangler, which will be produced after 2028, will have two powertrains: one purely electric, and the other using an internal combustion engine as a range extender. Of course, the document makes no mention of a fuel-only model or a plug-in hybrid.

Meanwhile, Jeep’s largest SUVs — the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer — will receive mid-cycle revisions in 2025, with new energy models equipped with range extenders to be introduced in the same year, and an electric version to go on sale in 2027.

As for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the next-generation model is planned for 2027, when it will be available in both fuel and electric versions. The Durango, another large SUV from Dodge, is also available with two powertrains, but its next generation will arrive a bit earlier, in 2026.

According to 2022, Stellantis announced Jeep’s next-generation models comprehensive planning, Jeep brand to plug-in hybrid Jeep “Wrangler 4xe” and then added “Grand Cherokee 4xe” models will be the basis of the Jeep “Wrangler 4xe” model, and the “Grand Cherokee 4xe” model will be the basis of the Jeep “Wrangler 4xe” model. “Based on the plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the then-added Grand Cherokee 4xe, the Jeep brand will develop a comprehensive and complete electrified product lineup, and the Jeep brand will launch four all-electric SUVs in the North American and European markets by the end of 2025.
