There are already a number of sophisticated mopping robots on the market. If you don’t want your floor mats to be wet, you usually need to place your mats properly before turning on the mopping function. iRobot’s latest Combo j7 Plus looks to solve this problem with an automatically retractable mop assembly.
The newest Combo j7 Plus is available for pre-order today for $1099 and will be available for purchase on October 4, bundled with the Clean Base. The 2-in-1 vacuum mop uses a new combination of acoustic sensors to detect different types of floors in your home and “decide” when to lift its pad to avoid thread count and when to lower it to clean hard floor types (like wood) and tile.
In an interview with The Verge, iRobot CEO Colin Angle said it is the first “hands-free” 2-in-1 vacuum cleaner and mopping robot – because while other companies have mopping pads on their robots in most other cases vacuum cleaner has a mopping pad, users must manually install a mop to clean the floor. Then, when they want to vacuum the carpet, they have to remove it.
