Intel hints that Microsoft will launch Windows 12 next year

According to Intel, 2024 will have “Windows update” to stimulate demand for PC replacement, hoping to boost its revenue.

At last month’s Citi analyst meeting, Intel CFO David Zinsner talked about next year’s Windows Update, suggesting that consumers might upgrade their PCs because of a new version of Windows, and that the “Windows Update” he was talking about is likely to be Windows 12.

“We actually think 2024 is going to be a pretty good year for the client, especially because of the Windows refresh,” David Zinsner said at a Sept. 6 Citi analyst conference. “We still think the existing computer base is quite old and needs to be refreshed. We think next year could be the start of that process because of the catalyst that is Windows.”

It’s worth noting that internal Intel documents regarding Windows 12 were leaked a few months ago. Intel is reportedly preparing its Meteor Lake desktop platform for the next generation of Windows, possibly dubbed Windows 12.

Intel has only made public the Meteor Lake mobile chip, which will be released in December and has a dedicated AI coprocessor built in.Meteor Lake is Intel’s first CPU to have a different small chip in each component, and the first to utilize Intel’s 4-process node.Given that Microsoft is pushing for built-in AI functionality in Windows, the AI coprocessor The inclusion of AI coprocessors will be important, given that Microsoft is pushing for built-in AI features in Windows.

Microsoft hasn’t announced any plans for Windows 12 yet, but there are indications that the company is looking to integrate AI-driven features with future versions of Windows. In an interview with The Verge website earlier this year, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, Yusuf Mehdi, said, “When we start working on future versions of Windows, we’ll look at other places where AI should play a natural role in the experience.”

It is noted that Microsoft recently added its AI-powered Copilot directly to Windows 11, focused on AI at its recent Surface event, and added a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) chip to its Surface Laptop Studio 2. Microsoft seems to be quietly laying the groundwork for larger-scale AI integration in Windows, and it seems only natural that Windows 12 would be combined with an AI coprocessor-focused hardware update.
