Indian income tax officials on Wednesday inspected a factory of Chinese PC maker Lenovo in the federal territory of Puducherry and an office in the city of Bengaluru as part of the investigation, two sources told Reuters. Officials also read the contents of Lenovo employees’ laptops during the visit, one of the sources said.

They also tried to contact Lenovo’s senior management during and after the visit as part of the investigation, the person added.

Lenovo confirmed the visit and said it is “cooperating with the authorities and will provide all support that may be needed, and we strictly comply with all applicable laws, regulations and reporting requirements in every jurisdiction in which we operate.”

The reason for the visit is unclear.

Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that tax officials also inspected contract manufacturer Flextronics Ltd’s factory in Tamil Nadu state.
