Reliance Jio, the telecom operator led by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, is in talks with Tesla to build a private network, the report said. The report pointed out that further progress will only be made if Tesla finalizes its plan to establish a manufacturing plant in the country. The report quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that the 5G network will be a dedicated Tesla line and will not be open to the outside world. Currently, negotiations are still at a very early stage.

The report also said that in addition to Tesla, Reliance Jio is also in contact with other automakers and hospitals that may use 5G to discuss building a dedicated 5G network service. Industry insiders pointed out that the dedicated 5G network will help these institutions achieve high-speed communication and increase the data carrying capacity of enterprise networks.

Reliance Jio is not the first telecom operator to seek to help large enterprises build private 5G networks. Earlier, Reliance Jio rival Airtel entered into a partnership with automaker Mahindra to deploy a private 5G network at Mahindra’s Chakan plant.
