As things stand, Google has done a lot of customization for its Tensor series chipsets for its Pixel series of devices. At their core, however, these designs are still largely based on Samsung’s Exynos infrastructure. Google is also using Samsung’s foundry to manufacture the aforementioned chips. According to industry sources, Google is working to restructure the setup so that it has more control over its custom chip designs.

We already know that the Tensor G3 was also developed with Samsung. It’s destined to be built into the Pixel 8 phone, and it’s probably too late to make any changes here. However, Google does have plans to turn the Tensor G4 chip used in the Pixel 10 series to a fully self-designed design, but due to the challenges of coordination between Google’s US and Indian teams and the high turnover of personnel, the G4’s own custom chip design code-named “Redondo” may It’s not going to happen at all.

This means that Google is likely to stick with Samsung chips for the Tensor G4 generation and Pixel 10 series as well. Sources say the Tensor G5 chipset, code-named “Laguna,” could be Google’s first fully self-developed chipset. It’s targeting a possible release in 2025, and if the rumors are true, Google may be looking to TSMC to manufacture the “Laguna” chip on a 3nm process.
