IFA 2022: Intel highlights Arc A700 series GPU Optical Tracing Performance

During the 2022 IFA Berlin, Intel marketing executives Tom Peterson and Ryan Shrout were interviewed by PCGamer senior hardware editor Jacob Ridley. According to them, the Arc GPU is not only more cost-effective but can even provide better optical tracking performance than the competition. Intel also shared the Alchemist and subsequent Arc GPU roadmap.

Compared to the red team (AMD), the blue factory (Intel) seems to be more inclined to take the green factory (NVIDIA) to compare.

Previously, the company has shown us the Arc A750 desktop graphics card in a 50-game benchmark test. The average speed advantage of the Arc A750 is about 5% compared to the GeForce RTX 3060.

Intel reiterates that Arc solo has strong DX12 and Vulkan performance, but the shortcomings of support for DX11 and earlier games are quite apparent.

To help Intel save some face, Microsoft also added support for early DX9 games through the D3D9on12 envelope API.

In a sense, the Intel Arc A750 solo is able to get significantly better performance than the RTX 3060 on DX12 games with exclusive optimizations – the advantage is around 17% / 14% / 10% for different titles.

Compared to the Arc A750, the Arc A770 performs better. On the other hand, the disadvantages of the Alchemist GPU overshadow its advantages when DX11 side-by-side comparisons are added.

It’s comforting to know that at least Intel is pricing the Arc GPU’s “short” performance to overshadow the RTX 3060 in terms of price/performance.

Returning to optical tracking performance, Tom Petersen reiterated that the Arc GPU’s optical tracking performance is comparable to, if not better than, NVIDIA’s RTX technology — even though Greenworks’ second-generation RT solution has impressed us considerably and a third-generation RT solution is on the horizon.
