IDC: Q3 global PC shipments down 15% year-over-year

The International Data Corporation (IDC) released a report saying that global PC shipments totaled 74.2 million units in the third quarter of 2022, as the traditional PC market continued to decline. Cooler demand and supply imbalances led to a 15.0 percent year-over-year contraction.

The report notes that traditional PCs include desktops, notebooks and workstations, and do not include tablets or x86 servers. Due to the imminent discontinuation of Windows 7 support, current PC shipments are largely driven by business updates, with shipments still well above pre-epidemic levels.

The IDC data shows that in the third quarter of 2022, the top five global PC shipments were Lenovo (22.7 percent), HP (17.1 percent), Dell (16.1 percent), Apple (13.5 percent), and Asus (7.5 percent).

In terms of the average selling price (ASP), ASP prices increased to US$910 (approximately RMB6,488) in the first quarter of 2022, the highest level since 2004, after five consecutive quarters of increases. “However, the upward trend in ASPs is set to reverse in the second quarter of 2022 as demand slows, promotions are in full swing and orders are cut. Another quarter of declining ASPs indicates the market is falling back.”
