IDC: 2022 global smartphone shipments down 11.3% year-on-year, Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi top three

A new report from International Data Corporation (IDC) shows that global smartphone shipments fell 18.3 percent year-over-year to 300.3 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022, the largest single-quarter drop on record.

IDC said full-year shipments in 2022 fell 11.3% year-over-year to 1.21 billion units, the lowest annual shipments since 2013, mainly because of a sharp drop in consumer demand, inflation and economic uncertainty.

Specifically, in the fourth quarter of 2022, Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo ranked among the top five in terms of market share, with shipments of 72.3 million units (24.1%), 58.2 million units (19.4%), 33.2 million units (11.0%), 25.3 million units (8.4%) and 22.9 million units (7.6%), respectively.

In 2022, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo will rank among the top five in market share, with shipments of 260.9 million units (21.6%), 226.4 million units (18.8%), 153.1 million units (12.7%), and 103.33 million units, respectively. million units (8.6%) and 99 million units (8.2%).
