Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck XCIENT Fuel Cell and the Chinese version of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle NEXO were exhibited at the 5th China International Import Expo. According to the latest data from Hyundai Motor, since its launch in 2020, a total of 47 XCIENT Fuel Cells have been delivered to 23 Swiss companies.

Hyundai Motor stated that the XCIENT Fuel Cell, the world’s first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck, has driven more than 5 million kilometers in the two years since it entered the Swiss market, becoming the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck to reach this milestone. In addition to the Swiss market, Hyundai Motor has also supplied the hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck XCIENT Fuel Cell to the United States, Germany and other markets.

The XCIENT Fuel Cell is equipped with a 180kW hydrogen fuel cell system consisting of two 90kW hydrogen fuel cell stacks. The motor has a maximum power of 350kW and can output a maximum torque of 2,237Nm.

According to reports, the 7 large hydrogen storage tanks of the model can store about 31kg of hydrogen fuel, while the battery system composed of 3 high-voltage batteries with a total capacity of 72kWh provides an additional source of power. Its maximum cruising range is about 400 kilometers, and it can be filled with hydrogen in as little as 8 minutes.

In addition, Hyundai Motor Group mentioned in the “Hydrogen Vision 2040” announced in September 2021 that it will take the lead in becoming the world’s first automaker to install hydrogen fuel cell systems in all its commercial models in 2028.

In the Chinese market, Hyundai Motor said that Hyundai Motor Commercial Vehicles has also obtained the production qualification of hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles in China, and is actively discussing local production plans.
