As the launch of the Huawei Mate 50 series draws closer, we are getting more information on the devices that make up the series. Now we know the number of devices that’d launch under this series. We will see the drop-off of two variants that are available on the Mate 40 series.

If you are familiar with Huawei flagship devices, you’d know that the RS variant is a constant feature. According to leaks with the next Mate series, we will as well see the RS, but there will be no Pro+ model. The reason for dropping off the Pro+ model as our source claims aren’t clear.

The Pro+ model made its debut with the Mate 40 series in 2020. It brought a telephoto lens and a TOF 3D rear sensor which the Pro model lacks. Mate 40 series came with a total of four variants, some with 5G and others 4G connectivity. But, the Mate 50 series will come in the following variants:

  • Mate 50 (being the vanilla model).
  • Mate 50 Pro.
  • Mate 50 RS.
  • Mate 50 X (A new addition to the pack).

Rumours have it that these will be all to the Huawei Mate 50 series. At this moment, we aren’t clear on what will certainly come (regarding variants) with this year’s Mate series. The available rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt, as this isn’t official information from Huawei.

Since we can’t tell what to expect with the variants to launch, here is what we are certain about. It is no longer news that the coming Mate series will not use a 5G processor due to the inability to access 5G equipment. Also, Leica will not have any contribution to the imaging abilities of this smartphone series. The available image system will be Huawei’s XMAGE, and it promises to bring photography improvements.
