How to enable dark mode for the new version of Microsoft Paint

0

Microsoft has brought a new native Paint app to Win11 and is currently inviting Windows Insider program members to test it. The new Paint app has been in testing for months, but Microsoft still doesn’t officially offer a darker color mode.

Users suggested to Microsoft back in late 2022 that a dark color mode be introduced for the Paint app, but have yet to receive a response. The Microsoft Paint app uses a new WinUI library that could theoretically follow the system and automatically switch between dark and light color modes.

The main reason Microsoft is not following up is that there are some compatibility issues between Paint and the Win32 code in the program, and the fact that the feature already exists but is hidden by default.

For those who are interested, you can enable Paint’s dark mode through the “Windhawk” third-party application. However, these modifications may affect the normal operation of the system, so it is recommended not to test on the main device and make a backup of the data before testing.

The steps are as follows.

  1. Visit GitHub to download the application. 2.
  2. Click “Explore” or “Browse” to find the mod after installation. 3.
  3. Search for “Dark” and find “Dark Paint” in the results. Next, click Install to deploy the setup

Windhawk is a Windows customization software developed by Ramen Software, the developers of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. It is designed to improve the experience of customizing Windows system settings.

Unlike other Windows customization tools, Windhawk offers a rich set of mods to modify. It also provides official and third-party customization mods on its website, and developers can contribute their customization mods as well.
