Highlander becomes electric car, Toyota will electrify familiar models

According to overseas media reports, due to the poor response of Toyota bZ4X in both China and the United States, Toyota is planning to adjust its electrification strategy, launch a series of electric vehicles, and will electrify well-known models, such as it is said that Toyota Highlander will transform into a pure electric model in the future. A Lexus sister model will also be launched on the same platform as the pure electric Highlander (parameters | inquiry). Of course, Toyota has not given up on the fuel vehicle market. The Grand Highlander, which is currently not sold in China, will continue to sell fuel vehicles to fill the gap.

“Highlander”

Previously, Toyota’s leader Akio Toyoda has always been skeptical of electric vehicles, but his successor Tsuneharu Sato is committed to the balanced development of a combination of fuel vehicles, gasoline-electric hybrid models, plug-in hybrid models, and fuel cells. Automobiles and pure electric vehicles are advancing hand in hand. Under his leadership, Toyota has increased its investment in pure electric vehicles.

“Grand Highlander”

Tsuneji Sato called for major changes to the underlying platform the company was developing, but sources said this caused some confusion and “we are constantly revising our plans.” What is certain, however, is that we will be able to see better things in the future. bZ models and other pure electric models, for example, new models will have longer battery life and better performance.

“4Runner”

It is worth noting that Toyota’s first model using solid-state batteries will debut around 2027, and it may first appear on Lexus brand models. Solid-state batteries will be a breakthrough in increasing battery life. Toyota has said it hopes to achieve low-volume production of solid-state batteries in 2027, but whether this can be achieved has not yet been determined. Many industry experts believe that solid-state batteries may not be fully produced until around 2030.

“Smooth road”

Sources said that this is not impossible, because Toyota is also worried that it will be difficult to provide more competitive products relying solely on existing lithium-ion battery technology, so it may accelerate the advancement of new technologies. In the future, Toyota will launch a series of electric models, such as the electric version of Tundra.
