Tesla has always performed very well in safety crash tests, passing with high scores from many of the world’s leading crash testing agencies including IIHS, E-NCAP, i-VISTA and others. However, recently, the famous Tesla hacker and software expert @Greentheonly broke the news on the social platform that it found something different from Tesla’s code.
According to his statement, he found codes related to vehicle testing centers such as ANCAP (Australia), I-VISTA (China Intelligent Vehicle Index), EuroNCAP (Europe), and Korea NCAP (South Korea).
In response, the hacker suspects that Tesla has set up special codes (codes with the names of the testing organizations) for the vehicles for these testing organizations and may be adjusting the settings so that they can achieve better results in the tests.
If the code that activates the safety system can determine that an accident is imminent, then no vehicle would do too badly in safety tests, and it might give it enough extra time to improve the way the airbags open and other features.
If the speculation comes true, it would be very similar to the way Volkswagen modifies its software to cheat emissions standards during testing.
And ANCAP officials have told the media that they are aware of the matter and are investigating it, though as of now, Tesla has not responded on the code.
