GSA reports that 135 operators in 68 countries and territories have completed, plan or are in the process of decommissioning their 2G and 3G services, with spectrum refarming to be used for 4G/5G.

Of these, 75 operators in 42 countries and territories have completed or plan to shut down 2G networks, including 23 operators in 14 countries and territories that have completed 2G shutdown; and 52 operators in 32 countries and territories that plan to shut down 2G.

In terms of shutting down 3G services, 75 operators from 40 countries and regions have completed, planned or are in the process of shutting down their 3G networks, including 26 operators in 15 countries and regions that have completed shutting down their 3G networks; 44 operators in 30 countries that plan to discontinue 3G services; and 5 operators in 5 countries and regions that are in the process of shutting down their 3G.

While 2G and 3G networks are closing at an accelerated pace, 3G networks are closing faster than 2G and 2025 will be the peak year for operators to move to 4G / 5G.

However, previous reports have also pointed out that 2025 will be a watershed year for the development of the 4G global market, and that 4G will move completely into the inventory market and upgrade to 5G after 2025. Ahead of the inter-generational development of mobile standards in the global market, the Chinese market has fully entered the 5G era in To B / To C, and has already used low-frequency heavy farming for 5G market development.
