Google to show advertising apps in Play Store search

Major tech companies, including Google, rely heavily on ads to generate revenue, according to SamMobile. In-app ads are a norm and a way for apps to earn revenue, and now Google is jumping on the in-app ad bandwagon.

A report shows that Google is testing displaying ads for apps directly in Play Store searches. When a user clicks on the search box on the Play Store, it typically opens the keyboard immediately and shows the user the four most recent searches.

But the folks at 9To5Google say that clicking the search box on the 33.0.17-21 version of the Google Play Store app shows three apps that have not been searched or interacted with and are all games with icons.

In addition, previous search results will appear only after the user has entered a letter into the search box using the keyboard. Past queries will appear first, followed by auto-complete suggestions.

At this time, it is unclear if these apps appear in the Play Store search box for a fee. The latest November Play System update does include “a new format for search results” and “new features to help you discover your favorite apps and games. “The Play Store search changes may be related to this.
