The so-called super-resolution zoom is undoubtedly one of the Pixel 7 Pro’s biggest upgrades over its predecessor. It is a combination of software, hardware and machine learning that produces reliable 30x zoom photos even when the actual optical telephoto zoom is capped at 5x. To demonstrate the power of the so-called super-resolution zoom, Google shared a gallery of photos showing what the Pixel 7 Pro is capable of.

Starting with a 20x zoom, the phone uses machine learning-based technology powered by the new Tensor G2 SoC, while at 15x zoom, the phone automatically uses zoom stabilization so you can take telephoto shots without a tripod.

From 1x to 30x super-resolution zoom

Google says it has been working on super-resolution zooms since 2018, as users want advanced zoom capabilities without having to carry around bulky and expensive DSLR setups.
