Google Releases Android 15 Developer Preview DP2: Supports Satellite Connectivity

Google released the second developer preview version of Android 15 (Developer Preview 2), which further expanded the Android system’s support for satellite connection functions and included some new UI elements.

According to reports, the App can call ServiceState.isUsingNonTerrescialNetwork () to detect when the device is connected to the satellite to better confirm whether the complete network service is no longer available.

In addition, Android 15 also supports SMS/MMS apps as well as preloaded RCS apps, and the next generation of Android 15 phones will support using satellite connections to send and receive messages.

In addition, Android 15 further strengthens the NFC ecosystem, making the “tap to pay” experience more seamless and reliable.

On supported devices, the App can request the NfcAdapter to enter observation mode. In this mode, the device can listen to the NFC chip but does not affect normal use. Instead, the PollingFrame object sent by the NFC chip is passed to the application’s NFC service for processing.

These PollingFrame objects can be used to authenticate before first communicating with NFC, enabling “tap to pay” in many cases.

For developers, DP2 also brings improvements to PDF, automatic language switching improvements, more OpenJDK API support, and coverage of more screen form factors.

It is noticed that DP2 also introduced a “screen recording detection” function to ensure that users are notified when the app performs sensitive operations.

According to Google’s official timeline, Android 15 should enter beta testing in April this year and be ready for final release after July.

It is worth mentioning that Google does not provide a full package of Android 15 DP2. If you want to experience it, you can try it through the following devices or use the Android emulator in Android Studio:
