Google Pixel smartwatch pushes January update: fixes third-party dial resting screen after 15 minutes

Google Pixel watches received its first OTA update last December, but there were still some issues to fix. Google has now released the January update for the watch and will be rolling it out gradually.

The main bug fix for this release involves third-party watch faces – those that used to shut off after 15 minutes, even if the user had the Always On Display (AOD) enabled. This issue seems to be limited to older watch faces not using the new Jetpack watch face library.

The update also includes the January 5th security patch. Firmware version RWD9.220429.073 (and .J1 for Japan and Taiwan).

One other change is that the fall detection function has been hidden. This feature isn’t quite ready yet and hasn’t been fully tested, so showing up in the watch menu early was a mistake. Fall detection is expected to be truly enabled within the next few months.
