Google Pixel Buds Pro wireless headset pushes 4.30 firmware update: adds spatial audio

0

A January 2023 security patch has introduced support for static spatial audio on the latest Pixel phones. Google is now rolling out firmware update 4.30 for the Pixel Buds Pro wireless headphones, which supports spatial audio with head tracking (Spatial Audio).

A 3.14 firmware version on the Pixel Buds Pro headset was released last October, bringing a full 5-band EQ, left/right balance controls, bug fixes, and more.

After the update, going to the Pixel Buds Pro settings will reveal a new spatial audio menu that incorporates the main switcher and Head Tracking.

Google says that “the audio changes as you move your head to sound more natural,” and includes a demo video that lets you “hear how the audio changes.”

Google advises users to “hold the phone steady or place it on a stable surface or stand” when watching Dolby Audio or 5.1+ content. Supported streaming services include YouTube, Google TV, Disney+, HBO Max, and Netflix.

Make sure “Spatial Audio” is turned on at the bottom of the Bluetooth settings. It works with Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 7 and 7 Pro phones. The official said, “Spatial audio is not supported on Pixel Buds A series or Pixel A series phones.”

Google rolled out version 1.0.506492162 of the Pixel Buds app in mid-February of this year.
