Google Pixel 7a phones equipped with Tensor G2 chip use IPOP package

Google released the Pixel 7a phone in May this year, equipped with a Tensor G2 processor. According to the latest information shared by source kamila (@Za_Raczke), the Pixel 7a is equipped with a Tensor G2 derivative, which is not as performant as the G2 in the Pixel 7 series.

Kamila pointed out in a tweet that creating an integrated circuit is not simply attaching a bare die, and the packaging process is also an important part of it.

The Tensor G2 processor on the Pixel 7a uses the “IPOP” packaging scheme; while the Pixel 7 series uses the “FOPLP” packaging scheme.

The IPOP packaging process is more cost-effective, thicker, larger and generates more heat than FOPLP.

Pixel 7a and Pixel 7 series adopt different heat dissipation schemes, and it is impossible to compare and determine the impact of heat dissipation on actual performance at this stage.
