Google has announced that it will hold a new event on October 6 at 23:00 GMT to launch the Pixel 7 / Pro series and a number of new accessories.

The Google Pixel 7 / Pro series will be equipped with the Tensor G2 processor, and the Pixel 7 Pro has now appeared on the Geekbench scoreboard, revealing the performance of the new processor for us.

According to Geekbench, the Google Tensor G2 is an octa-core processor with two 2.85GHz large cores, two 2.35GHz medium cores and four 1.80GHz small cores on the CPU side, and a Mali-G710 GPU.

Google’s initial Tensor processor comes with 2 x 2.8GHz X1 large cores + 2 x 2.25GHz A76 mid-core + 4 x 1.8GHz A55 small cores and a Mali-G78 MP20 GPU (20 cores). The new CPU is expected to have the same cores but at a higher frequency, and is the result of a 4nm process.

Switching the GPU from Mali-G78 to Mali-G710 will, according to Arm, deliver a 20% performance increase, 20% lower power consumption and a 35% increase in machine learning speed.

In the end, the Google Pixel 7 Pro with Tensor G2 scored 1068 on the single-core and 3149 on the multi-core, while the previous generation Pixel 6 Pro scored around 1050 on the single-core and 2750 on the multi-core, a small improvement.

In addition, the Google Pixel 7 Pro comes with Android 13 pre-installed but with a kernel version of Linux 5.10.

Google has announced the look of the Pixel 7 / Pro series, with the overall design continuing the “blast shield” style of the Pixel 6 / Pro series.

The full image specifications for the Pixel 7 / Pro have previously been revealed, with tipster Kuba pointing out that both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will use the 11MP Samsung 3J1 as the front sensor, using the same Samsung GN1 primary sensor and Sony IMX381 ultra-wide angle as their predecessors, with the difference being that the telephoto sensor has been changed to a Samsung GM1 for this year’s Pro model.

In addition, the Google Pixel 7/7 Pro has been certified by the FCC, which shows that it supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth and NFC. Previously, it was revealed that the Google Pixel 7 series will feature a 2K flexible screen and will be available for pre-order on October 6 and on October 13.

According to WinFuture’s Roland Quand, both models of the Google Pixel 7 series will only be available in two storage sizes, with a maximum of 256GB and a minimum of 128GB, while the Pixel 7 series phones do not support expandable storage via MicroSD cards. Quant says this is probably because Google wants users to use its cloud services. In terms of shipping times, the Pixel 7 series phones are expected to start shipping within 2 weeks of their release.
