Google offers Pixel 7/7 Pro repair manuals, but only for French users

Google has made available repair manuals for the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, but only for French users to view.

Google’s “Learn more about Pixel repair manuals” support article has been geo-restricted to French users only, and viewing it from anywhere else in the world will return a “Sorry, can’t find this page” message, which wasn’t the case last July.

Users can use the Pixel repair manual to try to fix the problems encountered with the phone and have it repaired. The manual provides step-by-step instructions on how to “repair a damaged Pixel phone with genuine parts; disassemble the Pixel phone and put it back together; remove and replace parts; extend the life of the phone and protect the environment.

It is recommended that only independent repair professionals and users with appropriate technical experience should repair their own phones, as they may face safety risks or damage the device.

In starting in 2021, France requires manufacturers of smartphones (and other devices such as laptops and TVs) to provide a repairability index. This is a score out of 10, applied by manufacturers themselves based on percentages, where one criterion for smartphones is published documentation.
