Google Home iOS 3.1 Released: Added Matter Protocol Support

Matter did not cause a sensation as many people hoped, but the smart home standard is being adopted by more and more devices. Matter support is now added to the Google Home app for iOS.

Matter was already supported in the Google Home app for Android, and Matter-compatible devices began to hit the market at the end of January. However, iOS users were left out for a long time.

At its I/O 2023 conference in May of this year, Google announced that Matter support would soon roll out to the Google Home app for iOS. According to 9to5google, a Matter update for Google Home has been checked on iPhone test devices this week, which supports setting up Matter devices through QR codes or written codes.

It’s not entirely clear if this is a server-side change or an add-on to a specific app version, but Matter support is available as soon as the Google Home app for iOS is updated to version 3.1.

The update will make it easier to pair the Nest Thermostat with the Apple Home app via Matter, which previously required an Android phone.
