Google Chrome New feature for Android tablets side-by-side view with visual tabs

Google has introduced a number of new features to Chrome for Android tablets ahead of the launch of the Pixel Tablet next year. If you already have an Android tablet, you can now use all these new features in the latest version of Chrome.

Side-by-side design

Firstly, Google has added a new side-by-side design that should make it easier to find the tab you’re searching for. You can swipe left or right at the top of the screen to switch between tabs, and to prevent you from accidentally closing a tab, Chrome hides the close tab button when an inactive tab becomes too small.

If you’re still looking for a way to accidentally close a tab, Chrome’s one-step recovery feature can bring it back as soon as possible after it’s closed.

Visual tabs

If you often have multiple tabs open in Chrome on your tablet, the tab grid can be a great convenience. Instead of swiping through the small tabs at the top of the browser, you can pull up a grid with a full preview of each tab.

To help you share and save content as you browse, you can now easily drag and drop images, text and links that spark your interest from Chrome into other apps like Gmail, Photos or Keep.

Easy browsing in desktop mode

Sometimes websites on your tablet don’t feel the same as those on your computer. If a site doesn’t work properly on your tablet, or if you simply prefer the desktop experience, you can set Chrome to always request and display the desktop version of that site. This may provide you with features that are currently only available in the desktop version, such as certain menus and buttons.

Using tab groups on tablets

Keep an eye out – tab groups are coming to Chrome on Android tablets. You’ll be able to stay organised by grouping related tabs together so you can better focus on one task without seeing the clutter of other open tabs.
