Google’s recent Chrome 114 release brings the Maglev compiler, bringing some performance improvements to the browser. The Chrome team recently released benchmark test scores for the Maglev compiler and introduced some technical information about the compiler.

The Maglev compiler is said to be a just-in-time compiler that generates high-performance machine code for all key browser functions in 1/100th of a second, reducing the overall CPU load on the compiled code and delivering better battery life to the device.

The Chrome team previously ran a series of tests on the Maglev compiler using a MacBook Pro with Apple’s M2 chip, using Speedometer, MotionMark, and Jetstream web benchmark testers, under Chrome version 115.0.5773.4.

The results show that Maglev delivers a 7.5% performance improvement on the Jetstream benchmark and a 5% performance improvement on Speedometer.
