GM announces phasing out of CarPlay and Android Auto in favor of in-house systems

0

According to Reuters, General Motors (GM) announced that it will phase out Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto starting this year, and instead use a car-machine system jointly developed with Google.

General Motors stated that its Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brand models will start the replacement process one after another.

Beginning with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, which goes on sale this summer, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will no longer be natively available in subsequent new vehicles. This phase-out plan will be deployed to gasoline vehicles starting in 2035.

GM and Google have been developing car-machine systems since 2019, integrating navigation, Super Cruise and many other GM-exclusive services, as well as built-in applications such as Spotify and Audible.
