There has been a big debate around the topic of whether pure electricity is a new energy source, but one point of consensus is that a new energy source must be one that has never been promoted and used on a large scale before, such as hydrogen fuel. Recently, the 2022 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum opened and Jinzhong held a methanol economy forum at the same time, and Li Shufu, chairman of Geely Holding Group, delivered a video keynote speech in which he said that China is the world’s largest producer and consumer of methanol, with 65% of the world’s production capacity.

According to the introduction, Geely has mastered the core technology of methanol vehicles, formed more than 200 patents, developed more than 20 methanol-fueled models, and the accumulated mileage is close to 10 billion kilometers, with the highest single vehicle running mileage exceeding 1.5 million kilometers, becoming the world’s first OEM to achieve mass production of methanol vehicles.

In June this year, Geely released the goal of achieving full-chain carbon neutrality by 2045, and formulated a diversified development path of new energy technologies, including methanol vehicles and pure electric, Thor hybrid, charging and replenishing energy, etc.

And in the passenger car sector, Geely has launched the world’s first methanol hybrid sedan, which is none other than the 4th generation Regal alcohol-electric hybrid sedan.

The vehicle is equipped with a methanol hybrid power system with 41.5% engine thermal efficiency as well as 40% energy efficiency, with a low methanol consumption of about 9.2L per 100 km, equivalent to about 3 liters per 100 km for fuel cars, costing less than 0.3 yuan per kilometer, and is now available at a price of 129,800 yuan.

In addition, Geely’s new energy commercial vehicle brand Remote Auto launched a new generation of methanol heavy trucks, compared with diesel heavy trucks, methanol heavy truck fuel costs can be reduced by 18%-32%, saving up to 1 yuan per kilometer.

So are you optimistic about methanol-fueled models, and will it be the next explosive area?
