GeekBench 6 widens the gap between iPhone 14 Pro and Galaxy S23 scores

In Geekbench 5, the iPhone outperformed Samsung by 18% in single-core and 10% in multi-core. In the Geekbench 6 test results, the lead was extended to 31% and 18% respectively.

So many users question the reliability of GeekBench 6, and many hold the view that Cook paid GeekBench to make the Galaxy S23 Ultra look slower than it really is.

The Geekbench CEO disagrees, and the A16 Bionic extends its lead over competing Android chips in GeekBench 6, which he doesn’t see as data falsification, but rather more accurate testing.

He said that in addition to machine learning and artificial intelligence, the GeekBench 6 scoring algorithm incorporates additional data features.

Larger data sets:

  • AI object detection (when your iPhone / Android recognizes your face in a photo, or knows the difference between food and dog)
  • Apply filters to your photos
  • Background blur (like you can add to video calls in apps like Zoom, Slack, iMessage, etc.)
  • One megapixel+ photos (new phones come with 48, 50, 64, 108 or even 200MP cameras, which won’t be common when Geekbench 5 launches in 2019)
  • Larger maps, larger PDF files, new HTML workloads, navigation, ray tracing, etc.

John Poole, founder of Primate Labs and creator of Geekbench, was interviewed by ArsTechnica a few days ago.

"Probably the biggest change in Geekbench 6 is the way multi-core scores are calculated, measuring "how well the cores work together to complete a shared task" rather than assigning different tasks to each core.

GeekBench 6 hopes to better reflect how real-world multicore workloads operate and present a more realistic picture of CPU performance, including most modern ARM processors and Intel's 12th- and 13th-generation CPUs".
