Founder Carl Pei explains why Nothing Phone 1 uses the Snapdragon 778G Plus processor

Nothing’s first smartphone, the Phone 1, which has recently generated strong interest in the mobile industry, has been confirmed to be powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 778G Plus processor, which was later confirmed by the company. This means that the phone is unlikely to have the raw performance of a device with Qualcomm’s flagship processor like the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.

Nothing founder Carl Pei (Pei Yu) said the company chose the relatively low-spec chip because it felt it offered a better combination of price, performance, heat and power consumption. nothing also said the Plus version of the 778G supports wireless and reverse wireless charging, features typically reserved for Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets, and that the Snapdragon 778G The Plus also has a slightly faster CPU clock speed than the previous 778G.

While Nothing’s Phone 1 images focus on its white model, recent leaks suggest it could also have a darker version added to it. Leaker Ishan Agarwal posted images of a second color on Twitter, which still features the same signature backlight bar as the white model. Other rumored specs include a 6.55-inch 120Hz display, a 4,500mAh battery with 45W fast charging, and 8GB of RAM, according to 9to5Google.

While it won’t officially launch until next month, Nothing hasn’t been shy about revealing details of the Phone 1 ahead of time. Earlier this month, the company showed off its rear design to the public, gave YouTuber Marques Brownlee an early sample to detail its illuminated light bar on the back, and also confirmed that the phone won’t launch in the U.S. (the launch is focused on Europe). At this rate, the only details to be announced on July 12 will be its price and release date.
