Ford to design and develop second electric pickup truck from scratch, release in 2025

After the F-150 Lightning all-electric pickup truck made a major impact on the U.S. electric pickup market, there are rumors that Ford will design and develop a second electric pickup truck from scratch, which is expected to be released in 2025, according to foreign media reports.

Ford reportedly unveiled the F-150 Lightning all-electric pickup in May 2021. Within 48 hours of its launch, the vehicle received more than 44,500 pre-orders. Early last September, Mike Levine, Ford’s director of North American product communications, said the pickup had reached 130,000 reservations.

Earlier this year, in August, the company raised the price of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup, citing increased raw material and supply chain costs.

Earlier this week, foreign media reported that Ford is developing a new electric truck that is expected to go on sale in 2025. The media noted that the vehicle could be a new full-size pickup truck under the company’s F-series, which would be targeted more at retail buyers.

Details of this new truck are not yet clear, but the reason the company is motivated to launch more electric truck offerings is that its F-150 Lightning defines the electric truck industry, and this vehicle is currently the only production version of an electric truck that can be bought for less than $50,000. Next year alone, Ford plans to produce 80,000 units.
