Ford CEO Reaffirms Support for CarPlay, 70% of Brand’s Owners in the U.S. Are Apple Customers

In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ford CEO Jim Farley said Ford has no plans to drop support for Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto.

In an interview with host Joanna Stern, Farley said, “Seventy percent of Ford’s U.S. car owners are Apple users, so why would we want to upset those Apple users?”

Foreign technology media MacRumors believes that car companies such as Tesla and GM remove support for Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, on the one hand, can collect and control more information about car owners; on the other hand, they can also create new content profitability by building their own ecology.

Translated part of his interview as follows:

"In terms of content, we are the loser of that 10-year battle. We need to face up to and accept this failure: in-car content cannot bring too much profit.

Ford will focus on safety, security, autonomy and productivity features. So decisions about content should be left in the hands of the car owners themselves. Unlike other car companies like GM and Tesla that want to have complete control over in-car content, Ford doesn't want to get involved."
