Ford said the free upgrade is designed to bring consumers a better smart cabin experience through a stronger computing platform and continued software optimization of the OTA. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip provides three times more CPU computing power and five times more GPU computing power than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820A chip in the current model.
The free upgrade is really good, and the news that was released is also attracted many user’s praise. But some owners found that this upgrade does not cost money, but needs to “pull people”. According to Ford’s official small program chip upgrade page, electric horse users who want to upgrade the chip for free, you have to invite at least 5 friends to register Ford electric horse members (small program / APP), and recommend a friend to complete the test drive activities.
According to Pacific Auto, Ford Electric Horse customer service said that even if a user books a Ford Electric Horse after the launch of the campaign, they still need to complete the “headhunting” task before they can upgrade to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip for free.
Previously, Extreme Krypton had also announced a free upgrade from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820A chip to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip for the Extreme Krypton 001. For those who have already delivered the device, they can make an appointment to upgrade via the Krypton app starting August 1. Krypton CEO An Cong Hui said that Krypton invested over 300 million yuan for the upgrade.
However, compared to the free chip upgrade chosen by Krypton to keep its promise, the Ford Electric Horse is a temporary decision to give away a gift package, so the Ford Electric Horse is more of a marketing approach by “pulling heads” to get users to upgrade for free.
