The following updates are available:

  • Dark Mode is supported on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Add-ons need to be updated to use.

  • New default UI element: ReFacets, which reimplements most of the Facets functionality. The old Facets component does not work with the new 64-bit foobar2000.
  • Improved Default UI UI splitter, now allows any number of panes.
  • Added “Remember the layout of each playlist” to the playlist view of the default UI.
  • Added “stream selector selector” element to the default UI toolbar.
  • New audio output device management features – unwanted devices can be disabled, and bit depth and DSP can be configured on a per-device basis.
  • New internal playlist format, changes are saved instantly and the latest changes are no longer lost in case of a crash.
  • New configuration data format, changes are saved instantly and the latest changes are no longer lost in case of a crash.
  • File creation time (%file_created%) and attributes (%file_attributes%) can be displayed.
  • For non-portable installations, the configuration file folder is now %appdata%\foobar2000-v2. There is no need to back up the old configuration file before upgrading, and the user’s foobar2000 v1.x configuration file will remain unchanged.
  • The first run will import the old configuration data (playlists, libraries).
  • More audio formats are supported: tak, ape, ac3, dts.
  • Updated to FFmpeg version 5.1.
  • Improved attribute behavior if “reload info” detects changes in a number of chapters, etc.
  • Rewrote built-in visualizations (VU/Peak Table, Spectrum, Oscilloscope), now using hardware-accelerated rendering.
  • Some default UI elements (ReFacets, Equalizer, visualizations) are now also accessible as columnar UI panels.
  • Webcast dialog (File menu) that remembers previously played webcast streams.
  • Modernized Explorer integration, no longer requires separate 32-bit / 64-bit shell extension DLLs.
  • The properties dialog now follows the theme color of the active UI.
  • Image parsing with Windows Imaging Component, removing libwebp dependency. Album covers such as HEIF, AVIF, etc. can now be viewed if system codecs exist.

  • New console logging system that writes log files for each instance to a specified folder.
  • New full configuration reset semantics – now clear folders for configuration files (with the option to keep user components) instead of requiring all components to reset themselves.
  • These additional components are deprecated and features are pre-installed for use: foo_benchmark, foo_bitcompare, foo_verifier, foo_input_monkey, foo_ac3, foo_sanitizer, foo_input_dts.
  • These previously included components are no longer optional (functionality will always be enabled): foo_rgscan, foo_cdda, foo_albumlist.
  • libFLAC 1.4.2, which allows decoding of 32-bit FLAC files per sample.
  • Solved the problem that FLAC files with ID3 tags were reported as corrupted by the new libFLAC.
  • zlib 1.2.13.
  • Fixed incorrect handling of M4A itunescompilation=0.
  • WavPack 5.5.0.
  • Compile with Visual Studio 2022.
  • Allows DSP configuration changes to be applied without reinitializing the affected DSP.
  • Allows DSPs to process their displayed names based on preset data.
  • Added mitigation for apparently random crashes on Wine (fewer C++ exceptions thrown when handling media index errors).
