Apple’s 14-inch MacBook Pro model equipped with the M3 Pro chip has appeared on Geekbench. Geekbench 6 scores show that this chip is slightly better than the M2 Pro.

Judging from the “Mac15,6” identifier listed on Geekbench, this score is from the 14-inch MacBook Pro model. The machine runs macOS 14.1 and is equipped with 36.00 GB of memory.

The results show that the M3 Pro has a base frequency of 4.05GHz, a single-core score of 3035 points, and a multi-core score of 15173 points. For reference, the 14-inch MacBook Pro 2023 (M2 Pro) included in Geekbench has an average single-core score of 2644 points and a multi-core score of 14229 points.

In other words, its single-core performance is 14.79% better than M2 Pro, while multi-core performance is 6.63% better. Compared with the 12-core M2 Max, the improvements are approximately 10.93% and 4.66%.

Referring to previous reports, the M3 Max chip has also appeared on the benchmarking platform, with a single-core score of over 3200 points and a multi-core score of over 31600 points. The single-core and multi-core chips are 17.4% and 49.1% faster than the M2 Max.

For comparison, Mac Studio equipped with M2 Ultra scored 2832 points in single-core and 21497 points in multi-core. In this comparison, M3 Max single-core is 13.38% higher than M2 Ultra, and multi-core is basically the same.

Judging from the Geekbench 6 Metal running score of the M3 Max chip, this chip is about 20% stronger than the M2 Max, which is equivalent to the performance gap between the A17 Pro and the A16 Bionic.

The highest-end M3 Max version tested in Geekbench 6 Metal is equipped with a 40-core GPU. It achieved the earliest Metal score of 158466 points, which is about 20% higher than the M2 Max and only slightly faster than the M1 Ultra with up to 64 cores.

In the Metal test, the previous generation king M2 Ultra can achieve a score of about 208621 points, so the gap between the two chips is very obvious, but after all, the two SoCs are used for different purposes, one is used for laptops, and the other is only used for laptops. will appear on desktop computers.

In terms of GPU, the GFXBench score of Apple M3 Max is close to the mobile RTX 4080, and can even be said to be only 7% lower. This level is almost the same as the desktop RTX 4070, which is very powerful.
