Firefox was misidentified as Microsoft IE 11 and denied access by some websites

According to users to Mozilla’s bug feedback, Firefox 110 Firefox browser encountered a strange problem, when visiting BestBuy.com shows “your browser is no longer supported, please download the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge”.

Firefox developers investigated and found that the problem may be due to a misinterpretation of the browser’s UA (User Agent) string.

The UA information for Firefox 110 is as follows.

Some websites only check whether rv:11* matches when testing whether the browser is supported, which means that rv:110.0 and rv:11.0 are treated as the same content, so Firefox 110 is treated as Microsoft IE 11 and this strange problem occurs.

Firefox developers have frozen rv:110.0 and are now temporarily using rv:109.0 as a replacement, and will not have this problem until Firefox version 120 (rv:120.0), which is after Firefox version 120 is released on September 25, 2023.
