Facebook updates iOS client, brings two lock screen widgets

With the official release of iOS 16, Facebook has also brought its usual client App updates. One of the most interesting is the support for Apple’s new “lock screen widgets” feature. Since its announcement at WWDC 2022, developers have been actively working on the new iOS 16 mobile experience with WidgetKit. As for Meta, the company also brought two Facebook lock screen widgets this week, Birthdays at a Glance and Top Updates.

The “Birthday List” widget is available in two sizes — a small square that shows how many friends are having birthdays today, and a larger rectangle that shows the names of friends who are having birthdays today.

As for the People “Hot Updates” widget, it is mainly used to show users the most recent Facebook notifications. For those interested, you can add the widget by tapping/long pressing on the lock screen to bring up the “Edit” menu, and then selecting the “Customize” button.

In this edit mode, users can click on the row of widgets they want to add or replace, then scroll through the App options and select Facebook inside.

Then you can swipe to see the available widgets, and once selected, simply close the Add Widgets panel and click Done to save your changes.
