Apple recently lost a trademark battle with Cypriot developer Apella Games. Apple argued that Apella Games had visual, pronunciation and conceptual similarities that could easily confuse customers.
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) did not agree with Apple’s argument and rejected Apple’s trademark infringement application. Apple can continue to file an appeal in the next 2 months.
The report that Apella Games registered its name and logo with the EUIPO on March 17, 2021 and was founded in Cyprus 1 year ago.
Apple previously submitted 476 pages of arguments arguing that Apella Games’ trademarks are similar, arguing that the company’s name and logo are reminiscent of Apple.
Yana Raevskaya, head of Prospectacy Ltd’s legal department, believes this is nothing more than a ploy by Apple. Apple is using hundreds of pages of incomplete material to try to intimidate its rivals and prevent them from entering the market,” he said.
